I was sent the Doodle Washington D.C. book from Timberdoodle in exchange for my honest review of the product.  As always, all opinions are 100% my own.

Do you have kids that love to draw? (Raises hand)

Do you have kids that when given the choice would choose drawing over writing or reading? (Raises other hand).

I have the absolute perfect book for you to give your kids this year as you’re learning about US History and important landmarks of our country…it’s the Doodle Washington D.C. book from my friends at Timberdoodle. You have TWO options to purchase: you can buy the book individually OR if you’ve got a 1st grader, it’s actually part of their curriculum kit!

Inside you’ll find very creative pages that will help your child imagine life at the US national capital. Some doodles are specific to Washington D.C., such as doodling a horse for General Grant’s statue, while others are universally fun, like decorating the cupcakes with lots of colors. But all of the doodles will inspire your child’s creativity and imagination! (And THAT is the most important part to this mama!)

My daughter chose to start on the doodle page with kids flying kites. It was an easy add-on style of doodling that she worked on while I was reading our morning devotional. My oldest son enjoyed a page that was intended to be a nighttime view of the National Christmas Tree where he used white and yellow pencils to create lights and stars. Again, he worked on it while I was doing our morning read aloud. He also loved that since the background was blacked out, the whites and yellows showed up better and actually looked like a nighttime scene.

There are certainly more D.C. centered pages including Abraham Lincoln at the Lincoln Memorial, filling in the Key Bridge, doodling fireworks at the Washington Monument, and showing some joggers along the Capital Crescent Trail. My kids have enjoyed passing the book around to each other a few mornings a week while I read aloud. If there is something they want to learn or discuss about a particular doodle page, we take the time to go over it. We’ve even watched a couple of videos and clips on specific monument and locations. It is SO easy to incorporate ideas from this book into other learning opportunities!

We are definitely new fans of this book. It’s a wonderful resource to pull out as an option for keeping hands busy and voices quiet while we do our morning reading time together each day. The kids enjoy passing the book around or even working on an entire spread together at the same time. Once the book is completed, I think it will serve as a fun journal-type book of all the doodles the kids have enjoyed this school year.
